Two interviews with seasoned IABC members on Employee Comms
8th September 2006 by Lee Hopkins

Allan Jenkins and Donna Papacosta, two seasoned IABC communicators, recently agreed to be interviewed as part of a series of interviews I’m conducting for PR undergraduates at Deakin University here in Australia.
You can hear and download Allan’s and Donna’s interviews over on theMediaPod.net site.
Thank you to those of who who have agreed to be interviewed by me shortly - I look forward to it!
My motto for interviews: “no stone unturned, no laundry unwashed, no pizza uneaten.”

I listened, to the extent by aural attention span permitted, to both interviews.
The first, Donna, turns out to be just over there, a few minutes drive from where i sit as I type.
The second, Allen, is farther away. Yesterday, a former IABC member in South Africa sent me a note, based on a photography web site discussion.
Amazing how small the world can be on the internet.
One observation; Allen makes a distinction between public relations and employee communications.
I believe employee relations is a subset of public relations, and employees are just another audience.
I don’t count telling people which forklift they are driving this shift, nor how to submit a claims form to pay your dentist, as employee communications, by the way.
But, in real public elations, employees are the most important audience. Memebers can be thought of as employees, in many circumstances, like IABC itself.
ASnd the “most in “most important” is just about the only absolute in communications.
After that, there’s no “best” way to communicate, or best way to write aspeech or best way to distribute info, or best anything else.
Why have no Americans participated in your web interviews?
And if you’d like one or two more Canadian interviews, Jana Schilder and I will talk to you. I’ll send you Skype numbers.

Brian, the skype numbers for you and Jana will be FANTASTIC, thanks! As for no Americans, well Jenkins is an ‘American in Europe’ but I agree that I could do with more Americans.
So……. coming up shortly will be interviews with Peter Vogt, head of internal comms at eBay, Amy Gooen from Verisign, Steve Crescenzo (not sure if you’ve heard of him?!) and I’m currently in negotiation with the William Morris Agency for 30 seconds of the incredibly busy Shel Holtz’s time.
I’ve also interviewed Meryl David and that will be ‘aired’ soon too.
Do I pass now? [grin]

Oh. and I’ve just tied up Brad Bellaver from Wells Fargo too. How about I get some more interviews from Non-Americans? Anyone interested?

Brian and Lee, I *am* an American. Canadian too. I spent the first half of my life in the U.S. of A.
